ABOUT:
David Heo was born in Georgia and received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Informed by the symbolic depth of traditional Korean art, he examines themes of nostalgia, dislocation, and desire, with solo exhibitions at Hashimoto Contemporary in New York, the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts in Grand Rapids, and Vertical Gallery in Chicago, while also collaborating with Vans Shoes and the Chicago Bulls.
His works on paper are inspired by the Greek and Korean vases that adorned his childhood home, reimagining motifs from mythology and folklore as contemporary scenes, often portraying tigers, horses, and dogs, as can be seen in the piece here.
