ABOUT:
Jonas Wood (American b. 1977) grew up in Boston, surrounded by his grandfather’s art collection that included pieces from Alexander Calder, Francis Bacon, and Andy Warhol. He received an MFA from the University of Washington before moving to Los Angeles, where he lives with his wife Shio Kusaka, the renowned ceramicist. The artist couple often work together on dual exhibitions, where he creates paintings of the porcelain she’s made, and in their separate practices, motifs often migrate from her work to his work and back again. Wood is currently represented by David Kordansky Gallery in Los Angeles. His record at auction was set by Christie’s in 2019 with Japanese Garden 3, which sold for $4.9 million.
