ABOUT:
Karl Lagerfeld was a German fashion designer born in 1933. As the creative director for Chanel from 1983 until his death in 2019, he's credited with resurrecting the dying Chanel brand while taking the interlocking Cs monogram of Coco Chanel and turning it into the style pattern so often used on bags and shoes by the brand today.
Like many fashion designers, he used sketches to illustrate his ideas to others, and left behind a substantial body of drawn work valued by collectors. The piece here is one of those drawings, a sketch for his collaboration with Melissa brand shoes of Brazil, released in 2013. This particular sketch was used in Elle Magazine’s first look of the shoe line and is signed by Lagerfeld himself, dated 2012.
